The mRNA levels of genes for lipid lipogenesis as well as other genesare quantified in the brain of Abcg4 knockout and wild type littermates usingquantitative RT-PCR, The results showed that diferent sets of genes for lipidmetabolism were activated in the brains of Abcg4 -/- male and female mice, whencompared to those of the wild type counterparts. It is shown that Abcg4 is a sexregulated gene with the function of diferentially regulating fatty acid and/orcholesterol synthesis in the brain.References
