ABSTRACT
This review systematically reviews the research progress on the pharmacology and toxicity mechanisms of Nux Vomica, including its botany, phytochemistry, pharmacology and toxicology. So far, 84 compounds have been isolated and identified from Nux vomica, including alkaloids, iridoid glycosides, flavonoid glycosides. The main toxic components are strychnine and strychnine. These compounds have a series of biological activities, including effects on the nervous system, analgesic effects and anti-tumor effects, and can inhibit the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and regulate immune function. Among them, the anti-tumor effects need to be studied. A preliminary study was also conducted on the methods of reducing toxicity and increasing efficacy of Nux Vomica.
