Types of manuscripts accepted

Review articles should be papers on special topics of general interest. Reviews should not exceed 50,000 characters, do not include more than 5 illustrations and tables, and the number of references should be limited to 80.

Original articles should present original observations, or observations deriving from relevant experience in a specific field. The text should be divided into the following sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion. Original articles should not normally exceed 35,000 characters; do not include more than 5 illustrations and tables; the number of references should be limited to 40.

Case reports will be considered only if they include atypical presentations, diseases not frequently found in specific geographical areas, or on the specific invitation of the Editorial Board. The title should not include the final diagnosis but only describe some aspects of clinical presentation. The text should be divided into the following sections: Introduction, Case Presentation, Discussion. Articles should not exceed 20,000 characters; do not include more than 3 illustrations and tables; the number of references should be limited to 20.

Letters to the Editor are short original articles, case reports of special interest, or letters referring to an article published in Acta Translational Medicine , or to novel hypotheses so as to stimulate comments on issues of common interest. No abstract and keywords are required, and the text should not be divided into separate sections. A letter should not exceed 7,500 characters, do not include more than 5 illustrations and tables, and 5 references.

Title Page

The title page should include:

The name(s) of the author(s)

The affiliation(s) of the author(s)

The street address, e-mail address, and telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author

Abstract

An abstract (where appropriate) should not exceed 300 words. It should be divided into the following sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusion. The abstract should not contain any undefined abbreviations or references.

Keywords

Please provide 4 to 6 keywords which can be used for indexing purposes.

Text Formatting

Manuscripts should be submitted in .doc or .docx format.

Abbreviations and Units   

Abbreviations should be defined at first mention of the word or phrase and used consistently thereafter. All units must be in SI System of units. Mathematical symbols and equations can also be written neatly by hand in the mss.

Acknowledgments

Acknowledgments of people, grants, funds, etc. should be placed in a separate section before the reference list. The names of funding organizations should be written in ful

Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format, and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Citation of References

Reference citations in the text should be identified by numbers in brackets. Some examples:

As previously reported by Sutler et al. [17].

No statistical significance has been previously reported in the literature [5, 8, 26].

Severe sepsis is defined as sepsis plus sepsis-induced organ dysfunction or tissue hypoperfusion [3-8, 11].

Reference list

The list of references should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications and unpublished works should only be mentioned in the text. Do not use footnotes or endnotes as a substitute for a reference list. The entries in the list should be numbered consecutively. Always use the standard abbreviation of a journal’s name according to the ISSN List of Title Word Abbreviations, seewww.issn.org/2-22661-LTWA-online.php.

Tables

All tables are to be numbered using Arabic numerals.

Tables should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order.

For each table, please supply a table caption (title) explaining the components of the table.

Identify any previously published material by giving the original source in the form of a reference at the end of the table caption.

Electronic Figure Submission

Supply all figures electronically.

All graphics should be submitted in .jpg format

Name your figure files as “Fig.” and the figure number, e.g., Fig.1.

All figures are to be numbered using Arabic numerals.

Figures should always be cited in the text in consecutive numerical order.

Figure parts should be denoted by lowercase letters (a, b, c, etc.).

Each figure should have a concise caption accurately describing what the figure depicts. Do not include titles or captions within your illustrations. Include the captions in the text file of the manuscript, not in the figure file, after the tables, as “figure legends.”

If you include figures that have already been published elsewhere, you must obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format.
